Last year I had the amazing opportunity to participate in the first ever Wild Collective hosted by Dr Brenda Tapp here in Peterborough. The Wild Collective not only helped to re-enforce some of my previous education and knowledge, but it also enlightened me, and inspired me, and empowered me to ask more questions ... It also introduced me to a group of amazing women. So when I heard that a second session was running and there is a third in the calendar, I knew that I needed more people to know about the program ... ... more women needed to feel inspired and empowered ... ... more women need to come over to the Wild! I decided that the best way to inspire you to check out the Wild Collective (which if you haven't figured it out yet ... I think all women of all ages should participate in), was to ask Dr Tapp and Rebecca some questions on the Wild Collective and their experiences facilitating the program. There is so SO much that we as women don't truly know about our bodies and all of the things that happen on a daily, weekly or monthly basis ... and we need to know more! Knowledge is power and we need to be empowered to understand our own bodies and take ownership of our health and wellness ... ... but how can you do that if no one really explains what they are testing, or what "normal" means, or if no one listens to the full laundry list of symptoms you are experiencing ... and you don't feel confident enough to stop them and ask questions, or you are made to feel that you are wasting their time with your questions? It is not all in your head! You don't have to suffer in silence!
A chat with Dr Brenda Tapp ...Q - What is the Wild Collective? "The WIld Collective is Peterborough's only women's 10-module, group health program, facilitated by a licensed naturopathic doctor and nutritionist. This program is tailored to all the women who feel like something is wrong, but are told by their family physician that it's all in their head, or it's just their age, or it's just their stress, there is nothing they can do it about. This program is for all the women who want to learn about their health and take back control! We deserve better, we can have better. As one of those women, I wanted to deliver a better version of healthcare in Peterborough. The group aspect of the program delivers another level of care that often gets neglected in one-on-one care - the community. One of the things many women, moms, grandmoms, plant-moms, and fur-moms are missing is their wolf pack, their sisterhood. Sisterhood is a group of like-minded women who support each other and it's something that we lose as we get buried in our careers, our kids' lives, and this pandemic. The WIld Collective consists of 10 sessions every 2 weeks, for 5 months. At each session a different aspect of health is discussed - your thyroid, sleep, mood, digestion, breasts, vagina, hormones, etc. Half of the session is the curriculum specific to that module, and the other half is an open conversation about your health, discussing homework, and setting goals." Q - What motivated you to bring the Wild Collective to your clinic? "There is nothing like this in Peterborough! One-on-one healthcare is something we have become so accustomed to both myself as a practitioner and as patients. One-on-one care in the private healthcare model that is naturopathic medicine can be expensive and isn't accessible to everyone. Group healthcare makes it more accessible. Research shows us that group healthcare and community also improve health outcomes greater than in a one-on-one care model. Now you have a support group, people to be accountable to, and a fun social evening to look forward to." Q - What is the best part about facilitating the Wild Collective? "I love teaching, whether it be to my patients in one on one care, my students, or in a group. This group model allows me to teach more people at one time, and it lights a fire inside of me! After each WIld Collective session, I am so high on life, I can't sleep!! I am lucky that I get to witness these ever so slight nudges or shifts in participants, not just in their health but in their mindset too. These nudges are just enough to get someone off their current unhappy/unhealthy path and onto a new path that can result in improvements in overall satisfaction with life, pleasure, joy, and happiness. It's pretty powerful." Rebecca, the other Wild Collective facilitator at PCNM had this to say ... "My favourite part of facilitating The Wild Collective is being able to see a community of strong empowered women lear about themselves through the content as well as through each other's experiences! I love seeing women hold space for each other, and validate others' experiences. It is a privilege to be able to arm the participants with knowledge about how their bodies work and how they can make themselves healthier! I know that these women are going to spread this knowledge far and wide, leading to more and more wild women empowered by knowledge of their bodies." Q - What is the main reason women should invest in themselves by joining? "You deserve it! You've taken care of everyone else in your life for so long, you've lost yourself in the daily grind, and you aren't where you want to be. I see you and I want to help you." Q - What can women expect? If participants can commit to 2 hours every 2 weeks for 5 months, they can expect better energy, better sleep, better mood, better digestion, and most of all some new friends. Q - How do women sign up for the next session of the Wild Collective? Sign up for our spring launch has not started yet, but if you join our mailing list you will be notified when it opens! The link to subscribe is at the bottom of our website: https://pcnm.ca/ I sincerely hope that you will check out this program ... because it is that amazing of a program!
