What does January mean to you?? For me, I LOVE January! Even though it is cccccold outside (currently -24C), January means a return to routine, good habits, healthier eating, and a little organization too. As part of my return to routines, here I am back to blogging after a bit of a hiatus.
Get back to planning! Now for those of you who know me, you already know that this is a huge part of who I am and simple what I do (lol). Planning can mean different things for each of you, from planning the next big family vacation, to planning your dinners for the week and the groceries you will need. Get a really good wall calendar or white board and go nuts!! This week before grocery day (while you are making your list) try planning out your dinners for the next week ... your meal plan can be as simple as Monday pasta, Tuesday pork tenderloin ... or as specific as Monday meatloaf with mash potatoes and peas. Doing this not only ensures that you will have all of your ingredients on hand, but it also means that when you are tired after work you don’t have to think about what’s for dinner, all you need to do is make what the calendar tells you. Keep in mind that a meal plan can be as ridged or as flexible as your family needs, you don’t necessarily need to have meatloaf on Monday, and you don’t have to cook every night of the week ...simply include a takeout or fast food night into your plan.
Get organized! Clear out the clutter that has been bothering you for months, make a cupboard purposeful again, organize you food cupboards so that you are inspired to make healthy food again. If you think that storage solutions are too expensive for your after Christmas budget, think again. I got a case of 12 1L mason jars for my dried beans, rice and pasta, and they cost me just over $9 (so even cheaper than the questionable plastic containers from the dollar store that will set you back at least $1.25 each). And I got a case of 12 500ml jars for may baking ingredients for just over $6! The uses of mason jars are limitless and they look so nice full of everything from chocolate chips to crayons!
Part of getting organized for me is my weekly bake and make
Sundays. This is my day to make sure that my freezer is full of my families bagels, muffins, biscuits, and a soup or chilli for the coming week. When I am hungry between clients I know I can grab and apple and a muffin or have a really healthy warm lunch in minutes with very little thought or effort at the time (rather than scrounging through the cupboards for snacks or lunch).
January is the perfect time to take back your life! It is a fresh start, a clean slate, and is full of opportunities for you to live a healthy lifestyle, all you have to do is open your eyes, set a goal and take the first step...who knows where it will lead you!
