Red is a vibrant, optimistic colour associated with strong emotion, courage, sacrifice, love and acts of passion. It is linked to the base chakra, and is thought to stimulate or boost physical energy, strengthen willpower, increase circulation and clear congestion.
Orange is a bright, warm colour that is happy, light and playful. It reflects warmth and generosity, as well as encouraging joy and optimism. Orange is associated with the sacral chakra and can benefit the kidneys, urinary tract and reproductive organs.
Yellow is light and optimistic. It is associated with intellect, promotes concentration, and symbolizes creativity and wisdom. Yellow is associated with the solar plexus chakra.
Green is thought to encourage emotional stability, purity and calmness. It’s related to the heart chakra, and is believed to help with emotional issues such as love, forgiveness, trust and compassion. Green is said to be the colour of health and has a calming effect on the nervous system as well as being a sign of balance.
Blue is clean, fresh and light. It is a calming colour that can help with insomnia and anxiety, as well as encourage mental activity and concentration. It is associated with the throat chakra and enhances verbal expression and communication, artistic expression and willpower.
Indigo is associated with the third eye chakra located between your eyes. It encourages greater intuition, strengthens the lymph and immune systems, and helps to purify and cleanse the body.
Violet (purple) has a mixture of the blue and red characteristics depending on the shade. Blue brings peace, and spirituality ... red brings passion, vitality, heat and energy. Violet is associated with the crown chakra and encourages spirituality, intuition, wisdom, mental strength and focus.
How can you use colour to benefit you? Wear it, decorate with it, or eat it. Make colour a part of your life. But remember to be mindful, as with everything, too much of one colour is never good and can have negative effects, balance is essential.
